Glenn R. Apple
Co-author - The Long View of Improved Putting
Mr. Apple graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1961 and taught mathematics for a few years before getting his MA from Ohio State University. He has taught both High School and Junior College mathematics since 1959. During this time he continued his amateur golf career with enormous success. He retired from full time teaching in 1996.
Mr. Apple has competed in and won tournaments as either an individual or partner in match play, scrambles, stroke play, and team competitions. He was the number one rated player in the very competitive Cleveland district in Ohio on five occasions. He has won the Ohio Public Links four times and thrice been runner-up in the Ohio Amateur.
Mr. Apple has qualified for the USGA Amateur, USGA Public Links, and USGA Mid-Amateur Championships. He main-tained a zero handicap (even when playing infrequently) and at times held a handicap as low as "+4," most unusual for an amateur.
Now in his mid-60s, Mr. Apple continues to maintain a zero handicap, and is still very competitive. The long putter is an important part of his recent success which includes winning the 1998 Ohio Public Senior Championship by four strokes. Finally, the elusive goal of shooting one's age, missing by one shot each of the last four years, he has achieved that goal, shooting 66 in 2005.
Mr. Apple is married to the former Julie Herbst. They have four happily married children. The Apples live in Apple Valley, Ohio.
